Each of the three focus areas is on a different timetable for issuance of RFPs (Request For Proposal) and subsequent funding. When an RFP or Letter of Intent (LOI) request is issued, it will be highlighted on the front page of our website and we will make every effort to distribute widely via email.

UNITED WAY OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY
PROMOTING SCHOOL READINESS THROUGH
ASQ3 & ASQ-SE SCREENING IN CITY HEIGHTS
United Way of San Diego County (UWSD) is a nonprofit organization that has worked to improve lives and create lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of problems that prevent progress in education, income, health and homelessness.
Project Description
Early identification of a child’s developmental performance is critical to ensuring that children in City Heights enter school ready to learn; especially for those children whose families are not connected to preschools, clinics or social services. First 5 currently has a system in place that screens San Diego County children between the ages of 2 months and 5 years who have either been referred due to a precipitating event or who are already involved in their programs. United Way, by way of a competitive application process, will provide funding for one agency or a collaboration of agencies to focus on developing and implementing a sustained system that would not duplicate efforts by First 5, but would ensure: the screening of all children in the City Heights Hoover High School feeder pattern entering Kindergarten in the 10 San Diego Unified elementary schools in the Fall of 2013; the outreach and training of their parents to use the ASQ3 (Ages & Stages Questionnaire) and ASQ-SE (Ages & Stages Questionnaire-Social Emotional) screening tools; collaboration with City Heights Partnership for Children (CHPfC) to ensure that screening data will be shared with parents, school personnel and additional relevant partners and systems; and the development of a resource referral and outcome tracking system for those children needing additional supports. Successful candidates will be able to begin screening children by August 2013.
Proposals are due to United Way by 4pm on April 26, 2013, click here for application details . Please feel free to share this announcement, and refer any questions to impact@uwsd.org.
